HOLDEN has revealed its pricing for the sedan variant of its Astra range will start from $21,990 drive-away, when it launches on 1 July.
While it shares the same name as Holden’s new hatch offering, the Astra sedan is not the same car, with its underpinnings coming from the Chevrolet Cruze.
The Astra sedan comes with a 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder motor with 110kW of power and peak torque of 245Nm. All models come with a six-speed auto, while the entry level LS has the option of a six-speed manual transmission as well. Holden believes the sharp price point will make the sedan competitive in what is one of the market’s most cut throat segments.
“Launching with $21,990 drive-away puts Astra right at the pointy end of small-car segment pricing and then when you consider Capped Price Servicing totalling only $916 for the first three years or 60,000km, customers can be sure they’ve got a great deal and will be well looked after,” said Holden managing director, Mark Bernhard.
“We’re really proud of the new Astra sedan, not just because of its long list of features and comfortable drive, but also for its outstanding customer value.”
Although the car was designed and built overseas, Holden’s local engineering team has had extensive input into the model, with more than 100,000km of testing conducted at the Lang Lang proving grounds.
“We’ve developed a unique steering tune for Astra which gives it a more balanced and responsive feel and, ultimately, adds to the drivers’ confidence in the car,” said lead dynamics engineer, Rob Trubiani.
“We also tuned the car’s suspension dampers and chassis controls to make sure Astra feels safe and comfortable on long journeys, but inspiring to drive through the corners.”
The Astra sedan comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with a 7-inch or 8-inch colour touchscreen (depending on the model level), as well as push-button start, satellite navigation and a range of other features which vary across the sedan’s four specifications; LS, LS+, LT and LTZ.
Seven colours make up the Astra sedan’s palette: Summit White, Absolute Red, Gasoline, Old Blue Eyes, Nitrate Silver, Satin Steel Grey and Phantom Black.
